Noctourniquet is American progressive rock band The Mars Voltas sixth and supposedly final album. It was released on March 26, 2012 through Warner Bros. Vocalist Bixler-Zavala states that his writing in Noctourniquet is inspired by the nursery rhyme, Solomon Grundy, a story in which details a child who lives and dies within a week. Bixler-Zavala also says that Its about embracing life for what it should be. Theres a view of the elitist lifestyle that being an artist is unattainable. Im trying to write this story that reminds people that were all artists. Noctourniquet Q&A. Noctourniquet highlights the more intellectual, esoteric sound the band has championed over the years, but even though the album soars creatively, it feels emotionally restrained. On the opening track, The Whip Hand, the gradually building song is suddenly hijacked by electronics at the chorus when a droning synth dominates the mix while Bixler-Zavala's processed vocals proclaim, That's when I disconnect from you, a sentiment that seems to track throughout the album. The album, the bands first set of new songs since Octahedron was released in 2009, will tell the story of a character inspired by the Superman villain Solomon Grundy and the Greek myth of Hyacinthus. As with previous Mars Volta records, the music was composed by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, who also produced the set. As of yet it is unclear how the emergence of a new Mars Volta album will fit into. The Mars Volta Noctourniquet Warner Bros. The Mars Volta guitarist, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, has been so busy this year that you couldnt be faulted for wondering if he believes in the Mayan prognostication about the world ending this December: So far hes toured as bassist with Le Butcherettes, taken his band the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group to Panama, reunited At the Drive-In, premiered his film Los. Chidos at SXSW, and released the Mars Voltas sixth record, Noctourniquet-all before May

Long time Volta fan here: This album took a while to grow on me but I'm starting to really like it. Guess I never gave it a chance. FTR, my Vinyl copy sounds great! No complaints here. Sounds much better than the CD, with most of the digital harshness being completely gone. Word.
Uanabimo
Don’t have issues with my pressing, Sounds a little treble high but great anyway. Also dead quiet.
Nalmergas
Not sure what pressings you guys have but mine sounds fantastic, no surface noise at all, even when played loud, and im using a 500$ rega exact cartridge, maybe thats the difference but i love the sound of this record.

Yeah! Nowt wrong with my Copy either! Buy better equipment before slating pressings please guys! Also consider acoustics of your listening area!!!
INvait
It sounds great on my 25€ standard ATLP cartridge as well :P
Ferne
Almost as if the grooves in my pressing are way too shallow. Results in painfully high treble output. Also, don't care for no A, B, C or D labeling to distinguish which side is which. Either way, glad to have it in the ole collection.
Pettalo
Yeah I just got this and goddam the treble is almost painful. Amazing packing and songs but man it actually hurts a little to listen to.
Castiel
soorry but this is the first time i utilise discog and please i dont want this vinyl...so sorry..;and im too bad in english...
BlessСhild
This is such a fantastic record, but good lord the sound on this pressing sucks. Glad to have it in my collection, but it's a real drag about the sound.
Hanelynai
Poor pressing unfortunately. Treble tones are excesively high, which produces annoying distortion when volume is turned up. No gatefold. The rest is very arty, records in spectacular blue and orange colors. Includes a pair of 3D glasses.
Xcorn
Thought this pressing was done too hastlily. The quality of the records is terrible at best, they sound as if they were pressed on a frisbee. No Gatefold, and the inner sleeves seem to have been made out of plain ol' regular paper. I had a lot of trouble with Hello Merch, they suck. period.
Miromice
On http://deadformat.net/release/noctourniquet/15330 it says that the pressing is limited to 5000 rather than 3500 copies
Yozshujind
Inner sleeves with 3D prints feel really thin, cheap and fragile. Would much have preferred cardboard like the one used in Octahedron.
Ttyr
I feel the same!! It feels shit when you hold it. I mean it looked awesome when on the site but it feels so cheap and not so special.. Also got mine in the post from hellomerch and soon as I opened it everything had seam splits :@ fu*king s**t. Right on the top of the vinyl sleeve and the inner sleeves
Agarus
Mine sounds perfect. Great sounding record.

Anyone have any surface noise with this one on the A and C sides? Otherwise a pretty cool package.
The Rollers of Vildar
My Copy seems to be ok. No Noises
ARE
I have the 3xLP black also and that's still a little off haha..
Malalrajas
The special edition FTM (glowinthedark) is known for its surface noise. The standard 3xlp FTM (black) is apparently superior there.Edit: And so far no static on Noct. Will report back if I hear some
Bluecliff
mine appears to make a little static, but nothing obnoxious. they certainly didn't take return arms into consideration when pressing this one. still a solid LP
Vudozilkree
Not got mine yet (live in the UK) but I wouldn't be surprised as my Frances the mute special edition which was sealed has surface noise.. But I'll let you know
Liarienen
where did you buy it
