Moreover, Consumed plays like a continuous album rather than a collection of tracks individual tracks stand out only when memorable moments arise, the opening build of the title track, for instance. It's easy to be drawn in by Consumed, which makes the title all too fitting, for the ambient mood and dark tone are inviting while the mammoth basslines and synth washes are enveloping. All of this makes Consumed Hawtin's most listenable album to date. Contrasting pretty heavily with previous Plastikman efforts, Consumed is a slowly evolving, serious work of tranced out microgrooves with deliberately paced, almost textural changes in synth washes and percussive sounds. Neither ambient nor techno, but existing in a delicate, contemporary space between, Consumed reminds one of a less harsh-sounding Porter Ricks or a sedated Mouse on Mars with an even heavier Kraftwerk fetish. The music has a serious metronomic thing going on, but it foregoes traditional beat tyrannies and bowel-rattling buzz bass in favor of an altogether more ethereal, subson. Consumed CD, Album, RP. Consumed, the title track is so simple, yet unattractive and enjoyable. This is something that arises out of writer's block. The success achieved here is understandable by Hawtin himself and a few others. e - Plastikman - Consume 12:36. Plastikman - Consumed - 01 Contain 8:31. Plastikman - Consumed - 02 Consume 9:56. Within a cool 'n' fuzzy ambience that recalls Eno's ON LAND, Hawtin drops gentle, dubby machine beats that work their way slowly under your skin. Would purchase the remastered version released in 'Arkives' if it were available.
This album might be one of the best productions of Plastikman. It has a rare sound which drives you the deeper parts of the ocean. The minimalist wave keeps the intentions of your inner melancholy. The tenth track, that is the name of the album also, has an extra-ordinary formation, just tremendous. No word can describe the exact feelings of the listener for this album, you should try your shot. The cover of the cd album is also very interesting for that period of time, in my opinion it reflects the artistic point of Plastikman, himself very directly.
I brought this disc out once to a place as dark as the night sky. Nothing around me for miles and I had nothing but the heavy weight of all the stars to look at. Let me tell you, when this disc was playing under this heavy blanket of stars I was scared!
The deep bass and slow movements creep up to you like slow moving light in a black hole. The tracks gracefully change over from one to the next and the 70 minutes just fly by...then I replayed the disc again and again. I recommend anyone who loves to be scared to try this just once. Listening to this at home in the dark is not enough.
Richie Hawtin's alter ego defined with "Consumed" how minimalistic minimal techno can be. Honenstly, I didnt listen to it more than 7-10 times in my life so far, not because I don't like it, but 'cause it is like an expensive bottle of wine for the very precious moments.
Consumed is one of my favorite CD's and it's my favorite Plastikman release by far. It is without a doubt a masterpiece when it comes to dubby, minimal and atmospheric techno. I like to listen to it real loud on a nice sound system or with high quality headphones. It's a challenging CD with all kinds of atmospheric sounds and deep basslines and it has the power to really make you think if you put some time and effort into it. HOWEVER, I think some people who listen to this CD believe it's the only one of its kind which just isn't the case. One of my other favorites is "Basic Channel" by Basic Channel.
Certain albums immediately conjure up images in my mind, this is one of them. It often gives me the impression of driving alone along a country road in dense fog. It's a brilliant minimal techno album with a strong ambient sense to it. Consumed reminds me a bit of Monolake's Hongkong.
Kono album wa hunto ni omoshiroi.
Listen to it through headphones after a dube (if I maybe so bold as to mention) and you will quickly understand why the album is thus named.
Evolving soundscapes that capture your imagination through there subtle movement. Ah, here comes the sound of the rotating sphere.... ah there it goes again. (imagination sparked)
AS above, it certainly aint dark. Its Deep. Deep in thought, deep in attention payed, deep in the effect it is likely to have on you, Deep as in Oceanic.
A supreme work of music. Mr Hawtin is a talented man.
If you are looking for simple minded music that offers cheap, obvious rewards, this in NOT for you.

You definitely need to be prepared to let youself get into Richies mindset. I have heard many call this album dark, but I disagree somewhat. It is deep, and certainly explores some cold territory. The album is serious. No kids stuff involved. But to call it dark sort of trivializes what Hawtin is going for. He is not making 'evil' music. He is making serious tracks for those that don't need a lollipop to enjoy their art.

Complex, minimal, brooding techno for those that know and love Richie Hawtins music.
If you like your Techno Minimal, this is the puppy you have been looking for, for a while....

On the whole the beats and rythms are just about there, getting more twisted and strange as the album progresses. Never really sure if the sounds that you are hearing are actually related to the CD thats playing, ahhhhhhhhh minimal is the way....
