I would not recommend this album to anyone its just rare and on Strata East, The tracks are boring and do not reflect the high standards that other albums in the genre that have been produced, I think Mtume Rebirth cycle is a far better album, i've had this for about 20 years and all the time i keep going back to

If anyone has just the cover, please contact me! :)

Don't waste your money on this album! I suggest you listen to Mtume's better albums Kuumba-Toudie Heath* ‎– Kawaida which may not credit him but he wrote most of the tracks and The Rebirth Cycle both of which have some outstanding tracks that you will be happy that you purchased in years to come, trust me.

thanks for the recommendation!! This is really a bit too free, too avant-garde, experimental for me, but Kawaida is really worth it!! just the right mixture of deepness, groove, spiritualness :)

Two reviews of the same album...both negative. Once was fine, please don't push this platform to be like most of the internet.

An extraordinary album! I've had this since the year it came out and it rarely left my turntable in the 70's. It not only embodies the spiritual jazz vibe of its time, but it's a constant reminder of the amazing talent in this area that was in abundance during this era. Hearing the blistering piano solos - especially during Utamu - from the great Stanley Cowell, and the amazing talents of the cream-of-the-crop musicians of this era: Gary Bartz, Carlos Garnett, Leroy Jenkins, Andy Bey, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Leon Chancler, and Mtume himself makes someone such as myself feel so fortunate to have been around during the height of this musical era. "Invocation" - the recited poem that opens the recording - was such a powerful 4 minute poem for me, that I soon had it memorized and even written out on a blackboard in my music practice room back in the day.

I would not recommend this album to anyone its just rare and on Strata East, The tracks are boring and do not reflect the high standards that other albums in the genre that have been produced, I think Mtume Rebirth cycle is a far better album, i've had this for about 20 years and all the time i keep going back to Clifford Jordan's Glass Bead Games "John Coltrane" , Eddie Harris", "Maimoun" are the killer tracks, this Alkebu-lan does not have one classic track on it, Also Billy Parker's "Fourth World Freedom of Speech" is a class act which is hard to follow.Record it, download it, play it at home, in your car, on your headset, whichever way you listen to your music do not pay these ridiculous high prices unless you are absolutely sure because i don't think it's worth the money. Also check out Kuumba-Toudie Heath* ‎– Kawaida Mtume wrote most of the tracks. Kamili is the killer track.

Want to sell me your copy RudeRoy? If you still don't like this record?

If you like Baba Hengates you may want to check out Buddy Terry's ‎– Pure Dynamite album made around the same period with some of the top class players of the time.
Andromakus
Baba Hengates starts of good but gets repetitive and drags on and gets boring, by the end of the track you wondered why you listened to it. Also its full of uncontrolled noise, clashing and banging shouting, screaming for no good reason. The artists are making noise for the sake of it without a sense purpose for dong so and lose their sense of direction. The album cover and "Utamu", which is recorded live and has a low sound quality and the introduction speech, to me are the best part of the album.I want to listen to good music and not have a headache by the end of it otherwise i would listen to heavy rock or something.
Tehn
I do. I first heard this album 15 years ago and even today I'm still flawed by the power and intensity of it- particularly the opening track Baba Hengates. Each to his own my friend.
Bedy
I once had a second copy with another address on it. So there might be a different original version?
