Album

Decoy is a 1984 album by jazz musician Miles Davis, recorded in 1983. It features keyboardist Robert Irving III and guitarist John Scofield contributing most of the compositions and the other solos. The theme of That's What Happened comes from Scofield's improvised solo from the track Speak included on the previous album Star People. Saxophonist Branford Marsalis guested with the group on the September 1983 studio sessions. Decoy Robert Irving III 8:33. This rather short album was extended with two recordings from the 1983 Montreal Festival. In spite of this, Decoy offered a good balance between the dominant funk that subsequently took over and the jazz tradition, reflected by Scofields angularities, Marsalis freedom of tone, and the breadth of Miles playing that had recovered its full power. Original issue: Columbia LP FC 38991 and CD CK 38991 in April 1984 Producer: Miles Davis Co-Producer: Robert Irving III Associate Producer: Vincent Wilburn, Jr. Engineer: Ronald F. This rather streaky set of music features Miles Davis with keyboardist Robert Irving III who has since slipped into obscurity and guitarist John Scofield contributing most of the compositions and the other solos. There are some moments of interest Branford Marsalis is heard on some cuts on soprano, but it is doubtful if anyone will be reviving Robot 415, Freaky Deaky, or Code M. anytime soon.
