Excellent album. My first pressing has some surface noise but is otherwise heads and tails better than the MP3. Mac ain't bad with surface noise anyhow.... not exactly ultra-hifi kind of music to begin with.
Dugor
Keep in mind that some songs were recorded in worse condition and might be the cause of static surface noise you experience. Even his later albums have a few songs with this problem.
IWantYou
Great mastering but some bad distortion on the high end, probably it's just the pressing.
Risky Strong Dromedary
I think I hear what you mean now actually. But I upgraded to a thinner stylus by now. Unfortunately I think those grooves suffered slightly from the earlier distorted plays and now have some light crackling instead. Conicals and Ellipticals shouldnt be on serious systems.A bronze might solve your problems but your grooves might be slightly worn like mine too by now.
Jerinovir
Listened again and I cant say I have much noticable inheret distortion on mine. There might be a slight amount from groove wear I got from previous carts, or its just some dirt in the groove. I suspect your copy has some non fill problems.
Modimeena
Very strange, wish I could help more but if you say everything is set up correct then theres is not much to do. Mine is also a reissue and my Nagaoka MP-110 has no problems. Maybe it really is just your copy.

leonthepro tangerinegripz leonthepro Are you sure everything is set up properly? Ill have a listen to mine again later, what part exactly is most distorted for you? Yes, everything is set up properly on both turntables. The moments that sound distorted are Mac's high end guitar licks and solos in Freaking Out. I'm pretty sure it's just my copy. Yeah no distortion here, do you have an original or a reissue and how old is the Blue? Reissue. My blue ortofon was less than a month old when I listened to the record, now it's nearing around 7-months-old but to be quite honest I'm not playing my turntable at all these past few months. Don't have the time. It's technically brand new.

leonthepro tangerinegripz Great mastering but some bad distortion on the high end, probably it's just the pressing. It might be your cartridge that cant track it properly, what record player do you have? Pioneer PLX-1000, with an Ortofon 2m Blue cartridge. I have another turntable which I tried the record myself and it has the very same problem I mentioned before, which is more apparent when Freaking Out the Neighborhood comes in.

On a technical level I actually think that this, Macs first album is the most superior release. Both the pressing and mastering are like the best of both worlds from his later albums with low surface noise and really vibrant instruments. On a more subjective level the lyrics and songs might be on a simpler level compared to his later works but there are still kick ass tunes that make it just as enjoyable as the rest.Edit: I have the repress/reissue which doesnt look like its pressed by United. I might even recommend the Repress for that reason since my copy is clean and quiet, unlike what others comment on here. For all the hipsters out there, the record is now repressed, $ 14 ;)http://www.omnianmusicgroup.com/collections/captured-tracks/products/2

It's a repress. Emailed the guys at CT and he said it's new but it has the exact same layout as the original. Got mine today and it looks exactly the same, but it is a new pressing
OCARO
Maybe there's no repress yet because of copyright issues with the album art just like with DIIV?This one reminds quite a bit of a certain Springsteen LP...
huckman
It was actually based on Hosono House which was released in 1973.
breakingthesystem
Reading from the other comments below, that there is going to be a repress, I was on the Captured Tracks website & saw that there are a few remaining '2' albums left on the site for the price of $30.
Amis
That happens with any album you try to buy there
riki
I know those weren't represses. I never said they were represses. I assumed they were just the last copies they had of '2'.
Freaky Hook
It's coming soon...
interactive man
The info was posted on the Captured Tracks site. Seems to have been taken down tho... Maybe there is no repress.

Where did get this information from?
shustrik
Did this repress ever come?
Dodo
Repress coming at end of January 2015.

An instant classic. Mac Demarco's "2" is pretty much the perfect album for any various moods. I have not listen to an album in a long time where all the songs flow so together, and they're good alone too. It's a really wonderful album, and I would recommend giving it a listen to.
