Mine copy plays with crackles especially on b-side, while there is a loud pop on the best track of the record ''I Talk To The Wind'', and i bought it new sealed today, and looks also mint. All the new sealed vinyls i am buying the last years are like this. No quality control anymore in vinyl industry. Otherwise the mastering of the record is OK, but the sound is extremely low.I suggest everyone to buy old pressings of the records, if they can find it in logical prices. The VG+ of the past is better than Mint (sealed) of nowadays.

Beautiful copy, nice and thick record. One thing though, the mastering seems to use CD mastered sources. There are a lot of 22.1khz shelfs, but there are certain instruments that get layered in that are full frequency recordings.

I once had to take an aviation/operational risk management class as aircrew in the Air Force in the early 2000s. The course booklet had on one page, “Confusion will be my epitaph” - King Crimson (prob a section about crew comms or something). I remember being so excited about that. Not one officer or fellow airmen knew what the heck I was going on about and why I was so stoked that that was in an otherwise dry military handbook.

Yes! This sounds great. Even better than the original Pink Island UK copy that sells for big bucks in my humble opinion. You can hear the 'personal supervision' of Robert Fripp in the mix. Love it. No pops and crackle on mine. Just fine warm analogue stereo with things popping in and out of the mix that I had never noticed before. levels are set just right, with no distortion on the loud bits and the crescendos, without sacrificing the original dynamics. Just goes to show that when new vinyl manufacturers have half a mind to make something decent they really can make 'something decent.'

My copy is pop/crackle free. Super flat and the bass is outstanding on this pressing. Sad to see some people get most of the duds since this pressing is great. I guess I got lucky this time on this record. I talk to the wind is definitely a stand out on this pressing.Oh and my copy did not come with a digital code.

After i read all the comments about pops on here I had to give the record another listen to double check. What i found is:Not a single Pop in the whole record. Some very minor crackling in quieter passages and some general hiss, which seems to be tape hiss. That said, I'm listening with a very good stereo and an Ortofon black cartridge. I'm also very sensible to pops and clicks. Overall nothing that would diminish my listening experience. Search until you find a good copy, they are out there! :D Mine didn't come with a download card as far as I remember btw.

Confusion will be my epitaph! Read all the reviews on this 2010 vinyl reissue and you’ll get a feeling that something strange is going on. I have purchased this 200g version FIVE times from sellers in five different countries just to try and find a good pressing. The first four all had irritating pops in the exact same places. The frustration left me looking like that face on the cover. I was about to give up, thinking that the owners who reported noise-free copies must have been mistaken or less sensitive to such disturbances. I got the fifth one about a week ago and the popping noises were nowhere to be found! I have just compared a noisy one with the good one and the vinyl looks identical down to the etching in the deadwax. The cover of the good one has more colour to it, which is a bit strange. The difference is obvious inside the gatefold too. The text on the inside of the gatefold, the label and the sticker has been exactly the same on all five copies and none of them had the download card inside.

First, 200 g vinyl is a gimmick. My pressing was more poppy than a Miley Cyrus concert on the first play through, especially in "I talk to the wind.' I think the pops are fading over the 2-3 plays I've done, but I've had other repressings fare better in the pop department.--Edit-- I had purchased the LP unopened, so it came from the factory sounding poppy. I decided to clean the record after my initial review, and the pops cleared out. It sounds amazing now. I've just never heard so much noise on a brand new record. The whole thing about 200 gram records being a gimmick comes back to mind again

i can distinguish 180g from 200g pretty reliably. Think about it... 180g is only 40g above usual weight. You normally will feel the 20g extra, also feel the extra thickness. :)Got this record for quite a while now and had no problems with pops and noise whatsoever.If you want to hear a noisy record then I suggest AIR - Moon Safari ... unbelievable noise.. almost as loud as the music. even after cleaning (with a professional machine in a record store in my town) not really a reduction in noise.

The LP is 30.6 cm, larger than the standard 30 cm. It cannot run on my Pioneer LP-990 cause it touches the arm support on the side.

Picked mine up today and sounded absolutely amazing, and this was listening through headphones. Also, the version I bought 'does not' have a download card, So, I wonder if the popped sounding copies had the download card? I always recommend investing in a record cleaning machine as I've bought new vinyl that had pops. Once cleaned, pops went away. Also, I highly recommend this copy as this is as good as it gets!

Im not sure if the tracks are really the best at show off a great sound because of how intentionally distorted some of them are like 21st Century Schizoid Man, but the mastering is non the less on point. Some complain about pops but mine is pretty clean. Too bad I didnt get any extras with mine. I compare sound between In The Court Of The Crimson King (An Observation By King Crimson) ‎(LP, Album, RE) Polydor 2302-057 UK 1977 and this record and 1977 copy the sound is poor, lost some instrument, cymbals are not clear, some effect in track A1 are lost, but in 2010 release sound is great, brilliant highs and deep bass, I love it.

I just recently bought this, and my copy is very excellent!! I read previous comments about this reissue having surface noise, which I was actually worried going into this given the quiet moments in some of the tracks, but thankfully my copy did not have any surface noise whatsoever. There are a few pops here and there, but overall sounds very nice! If anything, having this album on vinyl really highlights the dynamics between the different instruments both in the regular parts and improv parts of the songs!

Yeah you must have a weird deck. Most high quality ones are open around the platter so even if record was 14" it would not be in the way.

I bought this record in 69, it was one of the very first for me, and to be honest too (as written below) that fantastic gatefold cover had largely motived this purchase. I didn't realize at that time I was holding in my hands a master piece of rock history. Unfortunately I no longer have the 69 original copy to compare with but that 2010 version sounds terrific to me.

I cannot share the enthusiasm of some other reviewers. I love the gatefold cover (the main reason why I bought this album to be honest) and the heavyness of the vinyl but my copy is warped and the surface noise is killing my listening pleasure and makes it impossible for me to listen to e.g. "Moonchild". The sound seems distorted and compressed to me. On the other hand I have no other version to compare with.

Rose Of Winds
I don't own any other version of this on vinyl so I can't compare, but for me this reissue is very good. I'm glad I bought it. Everything seems high quality and my copy is very silent throughout. Although I'm not a big King Crimson fan, this record is one of my favourite albums of all time.

lets resume some aspects above: i obviously have this 200gr-reissue (without postcard/download-code, = not mentioned on the sticker) from the original 200gr-copy of 2010. the cover quality "best budged": pushed from cd-size, grey/dead colors with a blue stitch, relative thin paper/card. ma copy has production failure on A1 and B1: minimal pits/immersions at beginnings making 3-4 "blubs" (=> is this also on other copies?), rest clean pressing/playing. sound mixing similar style to hendrix-reissues with higher/clearer drums. i dont have older/originals from usa/uk or the original 200gr from 2010, but this copy has not the expecting 200gr-audiophil quality, but certainly will sound better than any copy from late 70s on....

Hi. I have the same problem at the start of side 2 also agree with you about the quality of the sleeve, not good enough for the price you pay and although it sounds good it really isn't much improvement on my copy from the 70s, a little bit let down by this.

Yeah, I think it's great but I have a VG+ UK second press (1970, one of the first album I bought) and the older ... sounds really in an other way, it's much better. However, the quality of the vinyl is high, there's no noise ... but the older one has an other presence and impact, a lot more natural

I'm not sure why you don't have a postcard in yours if it's the 2010 release. It seems like that's just the way some companies have been doing things with their reissues. I've has the same issue with other reissues but it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Not sure why I see so many people compliment the packaging here. The actual cover is pretty thin, my record seems to have bashed its way through the spine leaving a large tear. This is what happens when you put a heavy record into a cheap sleeve. This record sounds very nice, miles better than anything you'll find besides an original UK...However my copy has the loudest surface noise on side two...completely ruining the songs on that side as they are very quiet. It's seriously worse than anything I've ever experienced with a new record, and is only side two. Cleaned several times which actually seemed to make it worse, used a static gun...Again no change. Anyone else have this problem? Was very excited to get this in the mail but I think I'll have to get another copy now because the surface noise completely ruins it, and I'm not even typically that bothered by surface noise.

Yes same here. Side 2 about 5 minutes in has horrendous ripping noise that goes on for about 7 minutes - this is the quietest part of the record too! It looks like a whole batch has this same problem. I'm sending it back to Juno.

Yes since this is a repress. they have the same matrix runout, so same mastering and pressing plant. this is just a "second" pressing of the 2010 edition. if they use again the good quality vinyl of the other one it should be terrific with no surface noise and amazing quality. buy it without doubts, sounds analogue and full. greetings

A great album. I've already got Steven Wilson's remaster of Jethro Tull's TAAB, which gave me confidence in this one. I don't think the US version comes with a download code, though. This is the version of the album you should get. The original had issues, but went missing for a while. Every repress past the original slowly screwed up the sound of the record, until you get to the early 2000s CD that are awful quality, literally quieting down at random parts in the song and such. Compared to the other copy I have (Late 70's pressing, VG/VG+ cond) this sounds amazing. The bass, guitar, and mellotron are perfectly balanced together, and the unity of King Crimson's sound comes together flawlessly. In terms of pressing, I've heard better. I'd give it an A++ for mastering, but a B for actual pressing as there was a lot of surface noise/dirt/whatever until I put it through my spin clean and let it sit in a MoFi sleeve for a couple hours, then used an eyeglass cleaning cloth to pick up the dirt from the vinyl.

This re-issue is by far the best copy of ITCOTCK that I own. I like its warm, clear sound. Truly a great addition to my growing audiophile recordings.

at last, the original master re-issue! sounds superb. compared to my UK A3/B3 palm tree copy, they opened the highs a bit, but it doesn't hurt at all - actually I tend to think this is closer to the actual master tape than the first press was! the dynamics are all in place. the packaging is top notch. another very enjoyable release from DGM - keep it up!

agree completely. i usually stay from reissues because of too many disappointment, high cost and that it's just no fun at all.really great job on this seminal album especially on the quiet half of side 2.having said that it still sounds like a digitized reissue in the heavy moments, kind of muddy and lacking in some bass butfor this particular record where most early represses are not that great (aside the UK ones) it certainly is worth a space on the shelf.

Not sure if its something with the copy that I have, or what, but the tracks are indexed incorrectly. The time given for Epitaph is correct, at 8:47, but the track stays as Track 3 for approximately another minute, causing the beginning of Track 4, Moonchild, to begin at that point, already in progress.
