An album bearing the image of a violin might seem incongruous for a label that had just struck gold with the Jackson Five, but that's to miss just how vital Gordon Staples was to the stream of hits that kept Motown artists on the charts throughout the '60s and '70s. Strung Out was a full-length immersion into the genius of both Staples and arranger Paul Riser, who composed seven of the album's 10 tracks. Gordon Staples was an American violinist and past concertmaster for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He was known for his work as a leader and conductor of the string section on recording sessions for Motown Records during their heyday in the 1960s. Although not having attained the same level of fame as the label's better-known singers, his work on hundreds of Motown hit records has therefore been heard by millions of people all around the world. He released a Motown album of his own in 1970 with. Album: Strung Out, 2010. He is known for his work as a leader and conductor of the string section on recording sessions for Motown Records during their heyday in the 1960s. Strung Out', released on Motown in 1970, was a collaboration between the label's 2 house bands: the Staples led String Orchestra and the legendary Funk Brothers whose members at the time included Earl Van Dyke and Dennis Coffey. Strung Out' is a mostly instrumental affair though some tracks do feature background vocals. While this album was being prepared for re-release in 2009, both Paul Riser and the late Gordon Staple's wife Beatrice were contacted.
